10,000 Souls March, North American Shia Summit

Following the success of the December 7th, 2012 10,000 Souls March and recent advocacy meetings with Government of Pakistan officials, we would like to invite you and your organization to attend a Shia Summit to facilitate next steps in the struggle against religious persecution in Pakistan and around the world. As Shia Muslim leaders, activists and professors living in North America, you are uniquely equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to make a global impact for our brothers and sisters everywhere. Your participation in this Summit is essential to this cause: as a community, we have done the easy part of protesting (both against the human rights abuses in Bahrain in 2011 and most recently those in Pakistan)—now, let us unite to address critical issues of religious persecution facing our community to stop the injustice being done in Pakistan and other states such as Afghanistan, Bahrain, Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.

The Shia Summit will be held on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 (Easter Weekend) at in Hamilton, New Jersey. Our goal for the weekend is to raise a unified voice for the voiceless. To this end, we have crafted the agenda below that will allow for a wide variety of issues to be covered—and most importantly to be raised in an open and critical community debate, so that we may together come to the solutions that would best achieve the objective of improving the global situation for our community.

The Prophet (S.A.W.W.) said: “If any of you see an injustice being done, it is incumbent upon you to use your hands to stop it. And if you are unable to do that, use your tongue to protest it. And if you cannot do that, in your heart recognize that it is wrong.” We hope you and your organization will join us at this critical Shia Summit to move beyond the recognition of this issue to strategizing an implementable action plan to secure our community internationally.

**This is an invite-event only, and is not open to the public, with a maximum attendance of 200. All participants MUST register by February 28.  If you are an activist, academic, or organizational representative in the Shia community anywhere in North America and would like the invitation and registration materials e-mailed/mailed out to you/your organization, please send us an email with your name, organizational or institutional affiliation and address to**
